If your student does not seem excited about writing, perhaps it is because he or she sees no value in the process.

Asking a child to write about something that matters to him right now is a powerful motivator. Writing prompts are simply ideas or subjects offered as a foundation for students to build a writing assignment on. The best writing is writing that comes from a personal connection to the subject.

Millions of websites can attest to the fact that students love to write; they simply need to care about the subject matter.

For those who may lack a natural passion for writing it can be rather tedious.

A poorly-chosen prompt can frustrate or bore, while a well-chosen writing prompt can inspire and thrill. Young writers will generally write more interestingly, more fluently, and more passionately if the subject is something they care about on a personal level. Nothing can create writer’s block more quickly than boxing a student in.

Students need to feel that there is no “right or wrong” response when they are writing.

In fact, they just want to escape from their own life for a little bit but prefer to read something realistic, something they can relate to.

Even though romance is an extremely popular genre doesn’t mean you can be lazy when it comes to the actual romance and creative writing prompts isn’t always enough to help you develop a full-blown romance.
